I love a great commercial.
In fact it is one of the main reasons I watch the Super Bowl every year…the ads. Especially the ones that are not only funny but have that clever side to them.
I have one ad in particular though, not related to football, that is one of my all time favorites.
Of course it has to do with hockey but I think any parent can totally relate. And seeing that it is really hot outside I thought a little cooling off with the NHL might be appropriate.
So, here is my favorite…What is yours? Drop the link from youtube into your comments.

A few months back I read a story about a 19 year old kid who was dying from cancer. Ryan Salmons.
He was an avid Columbus Blue Jackets Hockey Fan and to his surprise, the team signed him to a 1 day deal. The deal from the Hockey club was a thank you from the team for the inspiration he had provided them throughout the season. Many of the players had gotten to know him through visits to the hospital over the years. As the team entered its first ever playoff series, Salmons sat in section 103 to watch his first playoff game…a dream of his.
He died this weekend after a long battle with cancer.
I just read the statement issued by his father which I found amazing. I can only wish that my father, family and friends would see me as does his father. I pray to find something in me to truly make a difference.
The statement is a true testament to Ryan’s character and worth in this world.
Let me know…What is a simple change we could make in our lives that would leave an impact on this world? A Ryan Salmons type of impact?
Ryans father stated:
“Over the past year, Ryan has fought with perseverance and grace. Many times when he could have been bitter and angry, Ryan carried himself with class and dignity. Ryan was the epitome of courage and strength.
“People live a various number of years. Some live to be a hundred, some in their 50s and 60s. I truly believe that only the good die young. My son Ryan was GREAT! Over the past year he has touch thousands of lives, many people he never met or knew. We would talk about making a difference and it is not the quantity of time but what you do with the time you have. Ryan could not understand why people’s lives changed because of him. He just continued to fight his battle. I tried to help him understand it is not the fight, but how you are fighting the fight. He just told me that he may never understand why people admire him.
“Throughout the journey, Ryan continued to want to do for others. He became friends with younger patients and treated them like family. Even when the Blue Jackets signed him to a contract, he turned it into how he could help push the team to the playoffs. It was not about him. That was Ryan’s spirit. That is who he was.
“I am proud to be his father, friend, and have been blessed by having him in my life. Ryan, I love you with all my heart and look forward to seeing you again one day in heaven.” –Barry Salmons
The final public statement by Ryan:
“This last year has been amazing and phenomenal for me and my dad. It’s brought us together; we’re inseparable. Granted, we’re not doing the things that a father and son would normally do, like play a round of golf or go on vacation, but this last year has been one of the better years of our lives just because how close we are together.” — Ryan Salmons

update: visited professions: Lawyer, COO and Missionary dream professions: full time minister, better missionary or secret agent
I am always amazed at what people do for a living.
Just the other day I met a day trader who also sells his photography for a living.
I have friends who are pastors, sales people, doctors, teachers and musicians (not a big leap to find when in Nashville)
What I usually find more interesting is what people tell me they would like to do if they had all the money in the world and could do anything. Usually it is not what they are doing.
So, here is what I want to do and I need your help.
1) I want to know what you do.
2) What is your dream job or would love to do.
I will start…. I sell educational materials to school systems. My dream job is to sell real estate in the islands
or blog for a living about Hockey and get paid for it…

What is your idea of a romantic evening with your spouse?
You see, for guys there are two types of evenings or dates with our significant others.
There is the Romantic date and there is the Bromantic date.
Let me explain the difference.
A Romantic date is the date our wives love. Dinner, a good wine, maybe a movie..definitely a babysitter or sleepover for the kiddo. Walks on the beach if you live near. You know…quality one on one time.
A Bromantic date is the one us guys love. Dinner, a good beer, scrap the movie unless it is James Bond or X-Men, and a Sporting Event. Preferably something in the Hockey, Football or Baseball range. Div 1 College or Pro sports only of course. Jersey it up, paint the face, and get loud. If it is a critical game maybe even jersey up and paint the face before dinner. Quality one with 17,000+ fans time. Now that is a date!
So you tell me…are you or your husband a Romantic or Bromantic?

I need your feedback.
First of all I am a Christian.
Secondly, I have a dark sense of humor. Sometimes a bit out there.
Third, I am a HUGE Hockey Fan. Nashville Predators to be exact.
So, I found a shirt that combines all of the above.
I need your opinion…offensive or celebrating that God does have a sense of humor?

Well.
I think I have accomplished one of my main goals as a good father.
I have created a Hockey Fan. Yup.
I know I should be focused on instilling a strong faith, a focus on family and good strong moral values, and I am.
But last night, I could not have been more proud of my little girl. She not only understood what was happening in the game I love, she LOVED it too.
Aaaahhh, the good life. Plus we got to share the moment together On The Glass!
What is a moment you remember with your parents or kids that you cherish?

One time at a sales meeting we did this exercise called 10 things. We were each supposed to each write down 10 things about ourselves and then the person next to us would tell the group about what you wrote.
Well…ready or not….here are 10 things about me.
Favorite Movie… A Christmas Story (The one with the Red Rider BB Gun)
Favorite Book… QBQ by John Miller
Favorite Sport…Hockey (Favorite Team is the Nashville Predators)
Career… Educational Sales
Wife and Children…Yes, and a 5 year old girl…way awesome.
Favorite Food…Mexican
Favorite Hang Out…Starbucks
Things that drive me crazy… religious hippocrates…nothing worse than someone who tries to tell me how to live my life but doesn’t practice it in their own.
Favorite TV Shows… Ace of Cakes, Househunters International, Chuck, How I Met Your Mother, Bones, Lost (hey, at least I am man enough to admit to the first few)
My Next Big Purchase… A scooter..Yep, a bring and shiny scooter to ride around town. Hey, it is about saving the environment man! Well, that and my wife won’t let me get another full sized motorcycle so this will be the next best thing…plus I can still wear my helmet with the skull and cross bones on it….bad to the bone man.
And finally, I have to put something that no one really knows about me….so here it is….it is big….ready…
I once worked as a character in a major amuzement park…can’t say who or what I was because I try and keep that close although some may know. Best job ever! Ok, so you may not think it is that big.
So, now that you know about me, what about you?
What is one thing that very few people know about you?

Today, is the last day.
Tomorrow is the day.
The stars align, the sun shines bright (well usually it gets cloudier) and my life falls into place.
Children dance and sing. My business bustles and every gas station in Nashville has fuel (fingers crossed).
Do you know what time it is….it is my favorite time….
HOCKEY SEASON! Tomorrow at 6pm sharp the rookies kick off the pre-season for the Nashville Predators and my happy little bottom will be sitting in my seats with a smile on my face looking forward to 40 glorious nights of hockey.
The excitement overwhelms me like a child on Christmas morn.
What gets you absolutely jazzed? Football, Hockey, Soccer? First Snow (if we have it)? A big sale at work maybe? Let me know….I want to know what people get really excited about.

OK…I got to mark 57 off my calendar and am now down to 56.
Yup…only 56 more days…
56 more days until I can pull out my sweater. 56 more days until I can throw on my yellow hat with autographs….56 more days until I can go to my favorite event. Buy my popcorn from downstairs and diet coke with mm’s up on the 3rd level. See my neighbors (other ticket holders I have been around for a long while). Hear the opening line ups, and what I long to hear most of all….the goal horn.
56 days until the most pure of sports starts for me…
HOCKEY!!!! Even more so…Nashville Predators Hockey.
A New Season, with new starts and new opponents coming into town….I cannot wait.
But all of this makes me think…..I get crazy excited for Hockey and you probably for another sport or event.
What gets you crazy excited? Excited enough to start organizing your jerseys or whatever 2 months from the event?
